The Pop Rocks Block is as fun as it sounds, using subtle and intense fabrics from your stash to create playful contrast. Anna Maria Horner’s scrappy design is a modern take on a 9-patch block, with random pops of color sprinkled throughout. Round up your light and dark fabric scraps and start putting them together to create these unexpected blocks.
Here’s what you’ll need:
  • Scraps of fabric in neutral and intense tones; for one block, you will need:
    • (9) 3 ½” x 4 ½” rectangles in neutral fabric
    • (3) 3 ½” x approximately 10” strips in neutral fabric
    • (3-6) 1 ½” strips in intense fabric
  • Rotary cutter and mat
  • Clear gridded ruler
  • Sewing machine
  • Iron and ironing surface
Finished Block Size: 12” x 12”

I really like this block. It's simple, looks difficult, and I appreciate the randomness. I like asymmetrical patterns because the viewer will always believe you did much more work than you really did. So keep your "quilter's secret." LOL
