This pillow is a great primer for anyone wanting to learn how to embroider onto knit surfaces. The knitting is simple – Kristin shows you a knit cast on and how to create a stockinette base with a garter stitch border. Next she’ll show you how to embroider the artwork onto the pillow with a spider web stitch, a chain stitch, the lazy daisy stitch and French knots. Once you have these stitches in your arsenal, you'll be able to come up with your own original embroidery designs that you can use to embellish all of your knitting.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Materials:
  • 1 ball of yarn in Color A (Kristin uses Color by Kristin from Classic Elite Yarns in 3243 Yarrow)
  • 1 ball of yarn in Color B (Kristin uses Color by Kristin from Classic Elite Yarns in 3212 Deep Forest Green)
  • Small amounts of four colors of yarn for embroidery (Kristin uses Color by Kristin from Classic Elite Yarns in 3285 Pumpkin 3289 Julia’s Pink 3258 Geranium 3232 Raspberry. Alternately - use colors for embroidery from your stash)
  • Straight knitting needles in U.S. size 7 (4.5 metric)
  • Blunt pointed tapestry needle for embroidery

  • 1/2 yard of 100% cotton pillow backing fabric
