Fiber artist Lauren of Lark Rising Embroidery designed this delightful ABC wall hanging with her own children in mind. Join her in this month-long, nature-inspired embroidery practice that gradually builds your stitching skills, resulting in a treasured heirloom that will bring love and art to any room or nursery. Lauren covers a wide range of embroidery techniques, from line stitches such as stem stitch and split stitch, to fill stitches like satin stitch and French knots. Each day, you'll learn how to embroider a different picture from the alphabet. When your ABC's are complete, see how to turn your finished embroidery into a wall hanging to adorn the home of a loved one.
Here’s what you’ll need:
  • Preprinted ABC fabric or linen fabric of your choice at least 26 x 17”
  • Size 5 embroidery needle
  • 11 x 17” Q-snap frame, large embroidery hoop, or other method of holding fabric in place
  • Small scissors
  • Embroidery thread in colors of your choosing : two skeins for letters and four skeins for images
  • Iron & ironing surface
  • If tracing your design: a fabric pen and light table (Lauren is using a Cricut Bright Pad)
  • If making a wall hanging: fabric for backing the project (felt or other sturdy fabric), Two wooden dowels (3/8” thick, 11.5” length), Approx. 20" of twine
  • Straight pins
  • Sewing thread to match your fabric
  • Ruler
  • Sewing machine

    As an experienced embroiderer, i skipped around to see if I could learn new stitches. I did not find. It is a cute sampler of motifs with many repetitive stitches. The way this project is finished was new to me.
