Crochet 101
Beginner Crochet 1
Cal Patch
Crochet is an endlessly versatile technique for making hats, scarves and sweaters, not to mention sculpture and rugs. And all you need is some yarn and a crochet hook. In this workshop Cal will explain and demonstrate the foundation crochet stitches and finishing off. You can create reference swatches of each stitch, or alternate them to create a stitch sampler.
Beginner Crochet 2
Cal Patch
Now that you know the basic crochet stitches, Cal will show you how to use and combine them to create different shapes, textures, and patterns. You'll learn how to increase and decrease in each type of stitch, work into the "bump" of the chain for a nicer edge, as well as how to add spaces or holes between your stitches, and combine stitches to make textured effects like bobbles and shells.
Crochet Bow Hairpin
Jenny Doh
This is a fun, versatile and quick project for beginners. After you learn how to crochet the bow, you choose the final design: add a simple chain to create a necklace, fasten it to a bobby pin for a sweet hair accessory, or crochet a larger size bow for a belt clip or gift topper. Jenny will teach you all the variations and applications in this workshop.

How to Read a Crochet Pattern
Edie Eckman
Crochet patterns and charts can be very mysterious, with lots of strange abbreviations, numbers and cryptic symbols. In this class, crochet expert Edie Eckman guides you through a typical crochet pattern, explaining line by line how it should be read. Not only does Edie discuss how to interpret the written instructions, but she also shows how the words correlate to the symbols in the chart. This is a great primer for anyone who wants to learn how to crochet motifs or follow garment patterns.
How to Work a Crochet Chain
Edie Eckman
Crocheted chains are one of the most fundamental techniques you’ll need to know when creating crocheted fabric. Chains are frequently used as the foundation round when working motifs, but they are also used to create spaces within crocheted fabric, or on their own as ties or other decorations. In this quick lesson, Edie demonstrates how to hold the yarn and the hook, create a crocheted chain, and accurately count the stitches.
How to Work Single Crochet
Edie Eckman
Single crochet is one of the most common stitches you’ll use when making crochet projects. Edie Eckman shows you how to work this popular stitch into a foundation chain, both back and forth as rows and joined together in the round. After you watch this quick class, you’ll be ready to tackle most beginner crochet projects.
How to Work Double Crochet
Edie Eckman
Learn how to work double crochet back and forth in rows with Edie Eckman. This stitch is a building block of many different crochet patterns, and is a key stitch to have in your crochet vocabulary.
How to Work Treble Crochet
Edie Eckman
Learn how to work the treble crochet stitch back and forth in rows with crochet pro, Edie Eckman. These tall post stitches require a lot of yarnovers, but they work up quickly once you get the hang of the maneuver.
How to Work Crocheted Slip Stitch
Edie Eckman
A slip stitch is used in crochet to join one stitch to another. This simple stitch is typically used to join a chain into a circle or join the end of a round to the beginning of a round, though this technique can be used in any number of scenarios when working crochet patterns.
How to Work Half Double Crochet
Edie Eckman
The half double crochet stitch falls between single and double crochet in height. In this quick demonstration, Edie Eckman shows how to work half double crochet back and forth in rows.
How to Seam Crocheted Fabric
Edie Eckman
Learn how to seam two crocheted swatches together using the mattress stitch technique. This technique is demonstrated on double crochet swatches, but it also works well for single crochet seaming. For side-by-side seaming, the mattress stitch is generally the best way to go — all you’ll need is a blunt tip tapestry needle to seam your edges.
