The Ara Quilted Overcoat is short-sleeved with double patch pockets and plenty of ease to fit over your favorite chunky sweaters in the winter or just a t-shirt in the spring. Fiber artist, quilter, and sewist Natalie Ebaugh starts this project with you from the beginning, from showing you how to select fabric and batting, to assembling quilt sandwiches and quilting your pattern pieces, to constructing a coat with a bias binding. There are minimal pattern pieces with Natalie's modern design, so you can spend even more time playing with different prints and quilting techniques - and making a whole collection of coats for all year round.

Here’s what you’ll need:
- Cotton batting and quilting cotton for quilt top, lining, and bias tape - find yardage for your size in the PDF
- 1" bias tape maker
- ½” (12mm) bias tape maker
- Muslin fabric or an old blanket
- Swedish tracing paper or other tracing paper,
- Machine feet: Regular sewing foot, Walking foot, Edge Stitch foot (do some research to find the right feet for your machine)
- Machine needles: Schmetz Mictrotex size 70/10, 80/12, 90/14
- Glass head pins
- Rotary cutter and cutting mat or fabric shears
- Thread snips
- Seam rippers
- Measuring tape and clear ruler
- Removable marking tool like chalk pen or removable fabric marker
- Pencil
- All-purpose polyester thread - Natalie uses Gutermann Mara 100 All purpose thread from Wawak
- Hand sewing needles
- Point turner (optional)

All the instructions were clearly explained. I don't think I would have been as successful without her guidance in the video. I didn't actually read the written instructions, instead following the video step-by-step. I learned new tricks with bias tape, especially how to join ends. While I had made 3 quilted jackets previously, this was the first where I was quilting the fabric myself first before assembly - it was a lot more work than pre-quilted fabric but really fun!
