If you’re comfortable wielding a hook but have never attempted a crocheted garment, look no further than the Super Slouch Crocheted Cardigan. Marly Bird, proud Red Heart spokesperson and expert knitter and crocheter, coaches you through this oversized cardigan that’s simple to make and cozy to wear. The cardigan is worked in one piece beginning with a double crochet and a simple shell stitch for a pop of texture on the back. Stitches are then cast on for the sleeves, and the front is worked as two separate panels before attaching a shawl collar that repeats the shell motif. Class includes a downloadable pattern PDF in sizes XS (36" bust) to 3XL (63" bust).

I love Marly Bird, but the editors need to correct the mistakes in the video and pattern! Twice Marly says there are 4 rows of lace panels in the back: there are 5 rows! Other sites put up a note on screen to correct errors. There is also a mistake in the instructions for size small. (Chain 67 for size small.) This error in the pattern messed me up badly and I eventually crocheted two sweaters, but not easily. Also, the lace panel at the front needs more instruction to complete. The multiple of 8 + 1 is not clear. In the video, Marly asks if this makes sense. Well, no.

Marley did a wonderful tutorial; explained very well and slow enough you could actually see her creating these stitches. I love this cardigan and pretty confident I will be able to complete this. I have always been apprehensive crocheting any type of clothing. I know feel confident to tackle this project. Marley is a wonderful instructor.
