These plush baby blocks are made up of six swatches, each using a different stitch pattern. You’ll gain experience knitting each stitch pattern, as well as the invaluable knowledge of learning how to read your knitting. Melanie covers stockinette, 1x1 ribbing, 2x2 ribbing, seed stitch, reverse stockinette ridges and basketweave stitch. Then she shows how to seam the swatches around a foam cube for a cozy gift for the eensie ones in your life.

Here’s what you’ll need:
Materials:
- 6 colors of worsted-weight yarn (Melanie uses Color by Kristin yarn. This yarn is 50% wool, 25% alpaca, and 25% mohair. Each skein weighs 50 grams and contains about 93 yards of yarn)
- One pair of size 7 knitting needles (or size needed to obtain gauge)
- One pair of needles two sizes smaller than the main needles (for basket-weave swatch)
- Yarn needle
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- A 3-inch foam cube for each block
- Serrated knife (if necessary to custom-cut foam cube)
- 4 stitches and 5 rows = 1 inch on larger needles in stockinette stitch
