Fabric School: Understanding Textiles with Mood Fabrics
Intermediate | 1 hour 5 min
Have you ever walked into a fabric store and felt totally overwhelmed? Benjamin Mach – Creative Director of Mood University and two-time Project Runway contestant – can help. In this comprehensive course, he takes you on a figurative walk through the aisles of Mood Fabrics in New York City, explaining the difference between fibers and fabrics, wovens and knits, and everything in between. A range of fibers are discussed here, including cotton, linen, wool, silk, synthetics, and specialty fabrics. Once you have a grip on the composition of fabric, you’ll learn how fabric drapes on the body so you can select the perfect fabric for your project.
Here’s what you’ll need:
  • Mood Swatch Kit – Create a “Mini Mood” at home with an assortment of fabric swatches, perfect for arranging in a swatch book and referencing when you place orders online
  • The Mood Guide to Fabric and Fashion: The Essential Guide from the World's Most Famous Fabric Store
Learn how to:
  • Find the perfect fabric for your project
  • Tell the difference between woven and knit
  • Understand the characteristics of plant fibers, animal fibers, and synthetics

WOW, Loved this class!!!! He covered so much, and it answered a lot of my questions, but mostly he did it in a way that really made me understand a lot about fabric, I learned so much and feel like I can now start exploring and playing with fabrics on my own. Thanks great class!!!

I loved this class, it was almost exactly what I was looking for. I wish there was some more classes to dive in to an explore the different fabric types, maybe which fabrics for different seasons etc!
