Artist and illustrator Lindsay Stripling has made a career of her whimsical and thoughtful work. In this daily practice she demonstrates the process she utilizes- from concept to final spread – to bring her creations to life. Each week you’ll explore a new medium including pencil, ink, colored pencil and oil-based crayons. You’ll add words and details to bring balance to the page and finish up the month with techniques to turn your sketchbook spreads into even more artistic projects and paintings.

Event stylist Jenn Sbranti from Hostess with the Mostess guides you through constructing 3D paper gemstones that can hold little gifts, serve as a place card, or just brighten up a tablescape. Use your Cricut machine to cut any card stock, then accent your box with metallic gold paint and printable tags. Easily personalized, these gemstones will elevate any event.

Dollmaker and designer Katia Ferris demonstrates how sewing a Luckyjuju doll is a tender labor of love. Featuring hand-embroidered details, a layered mask and two-tone wings, these owls have so much personality in a sweet little package. Ideal for the intermediate sewist, Katia teaches you her time-tested techniques and demonstrates how to assemble the doll, perfectly stuff the owl, and how to close it all up using a ladder stitch. Take your lovie to the next level by adding accessories like a ruched dress, pom poms, or a sweet bow tie before gifting it to a truly lucky recipient or keeping it as an heirloom piece. 

Knitwear designer Faith Hale demonstrates how baby knits are particularly rewarding (and cute!). Work with a washable, hand-dyed yarn to make three projects, arranged in order of difficulty: a triangular bandana, tall booties, and a hat with optional kitty ears. This contemporary layette is knit entirely in garter stitch and you'll learn to increase and decrease, pick up stitches, work yarn-over eyelets and knit an I-cord. With these quick-to-stitch projects that are adorably giftable – what’s not to love?

Make a winter textile with Jenn Sbranti from Hostess with the Mostess . Working in Cricut’s Design Space, you’ll cut two kinds of iron-on vinyl, then adhere to a placemat or table runner to personalize your holiday dining space. Further embellish your work with stencil and painted motifs using basic acrylic paint turned fabric paint with a hot tip from Jenn. This holiday textile adds sparkle and texture to any table.

Sew a drapey, gauzy, layering piece in next to no time to quickly top any outfit. Sewer Ashley Nickels demonstrates how to use a comfortably-fitting oversized t-shirt to make your own template, cut your fabric, then stitch together with underarm seams. A rolled-hem foot makes finishing the edges a breeze with options provided for a double-fold hem option. 

This handsome quilt is a fresh take the quintessential Australian quilt – which was a utilitarian quilt born on the outback from repurposed wool suiting. Kathy shows you her modern approach, using flying geese blocks with added applique. This quilt makes a bold, graphic statement but the project has a lot of flexibility so it can be reworked in many different arrangements.

Learn how to make this spooky-sweet black cat with crochet designer, Twinkie Chan. You’ll learn how to work in the round using basic stitches, whipstitch everything together, and most importantly, embroider the face. This black cat is perfect for Halloween décor – or switch up the yarn colors and make it look just like your favorite kitty!  

For this daily challenge, fine artist, illustrator and author Lisa Congdon embraces all things ink-y! Whether you like to create detailed drawings with Micron pens or paint lush washes with India inks, Lisa shows you how to explore a variety of themes and mediums every day for a whole month. In this class, Courtney creates Halloween shadow puppets using the Cricut Explore cutting machine. These spooky Victorian silhouettes are fun to make and even more fun to put into action. Courtney shares tips for using different types of materials, like card stock and wood veneer, and how to add your own decorative flare using paint or ribbons.

In Part 3, let’s switch things up by practicing with white ink on black paper. Since you won’t be able to use a guide sheet with black paper, this exercise helps you get comfortable with free-hand calligraphy and will loosen up your style. You’ll also learn how to write numerals and punctuation, which we’ll use together with letters to beautifully address an envelope.
